Animation Toolkit
When Animation Toolkit needed a festive social media video, they asked us to animate a special Christmas clip based on the stop-motion film, The Boxtrolls. The goal was to feature a replica of the character Shoe to highlight their armatures and puppet replicas.
Our animation team's challenge was to bring the puppet to life while ensuring it mimicked the iconic scene where Shoe's head pops out of his box. The puppet was well-made and perfect for animation, but its ears were a bit too wide to fit through the box's opening.
To solve this, we requested a second, modified head to be printed, this one with the ears removed. This allowed us to use a replacement animation trick, switching the heads between frames to create the seamless illusion of Shoe's entire head appearing and disappearing from the box. We also handled the set dressing for the video, incorporating Animation Toolkit's own product packaging into the background to subtly promote their brand.
The final video was a success, showcasing our problem-solving skills and attention to detail while delivering a charming and effective piece of seasonal content.

Behind the Scenes:
This clip illustrates the replacement animation technique used to make the character's head appear. We swapped the full head with a modified, earless one to fit through the box opening.
